Margadarshi Society Kalaburagi

Margadarshi society is a secular, non-profit organization established in 2002, headquartered in Kalaburagi. The focus is to create a child-friendly and sustained society “where children are free from all forms of abuse and exploiMargadarshi Society works on women and children and their right based approach in Hyderabad Karnataka region the rate of child marriages, child trafficking, child labour and many more children related issues, due to which the children are getting into a wrong path, this happens due to lack of education, awareness, and knowledge about the fundamental rights. To note those issues we are working to get rid of such women and children-based issues in Kalaburagi(D) and slowly extending to all other areas of Hyderabad Karnataka Region which includes Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgiri, Bijapur, Raichur, Koppal.

OUR MISSION

To make Kalaburagi as a model district ensuring child right for children in difficult condition by sensitizing and empowering children, youth, parents, caring community groups and making the civil society, government and allied systems and corporate accountable towards the development of children through promoting alternate care, networking, advocacy and lobbying and right based approach.

Shri Basavaraj Tengli is from Kurkunta Village of Sedam Taluk of Kalaburagi District, worked in Shri KottalaBasaveshwara Sangha in Sedam,in Vishwa Seva Mission NGO, in the watershed program in 2012, he is appointed and pursuing as District Coordinator ofCHILDLINE – 1098 Nodal Centre Kalaburagi. Shri Basavaraj is more concerned on the issues of Children and has a good talent in counseling the children and their parents, has a vast experience in stopping child marriages, takes more personal interest; has good contact with the government officials; Shri Basavaraj Tengli is appointed as Treasurer of Margadarshi Society on 1st October 2018.

Smt Sharada completed her degree in law and was also practicing, but after marriage, she left the law practice. Smt Sharada has the concern on street children and having an interest in protecting such children, she joined Margadarshi Society board as Margadarshi Society is working for the same cause. Dr. Malhar Rao Kulkarni [Malle] completed his B. Sc., M.B.B.S., 15 years ago he Served in DDRC - District Disability Rehabilitation Centre and charged only 2 Rs. per patient now he’s charging only 30Rs. per patient for consultation of the poor people, has his own ambulance and serves for the poor for free. Has served as secretary in District Red Cross. Opened free tailoring centers, conducts free health check-up camps regularly, provides aid and appliances for differently-abled people. Also, he organizes the cluster-wise meetings of Anganwadis’ teachers and Asha workers to know the situations around. He visits the National Child Labour School for free health check-ups for the children in the school. He’s also a Nutritionist. Dr. Malhar Rao Kulkarni [Malle] is appointed as BoardMember of Margadarshi Society on 1st October 2018.

Mr. Mallikarjun Dhuttargaoncompleted his M.A., M. Ed., M. Phil. and L. L. B. has an experience of fifteen years in the teaching field, a former principal for D. Ed. in Mother Theresa Degree College Kalaburagi, was working as Personal Asst. with MLA-Member of Legislative Assembly of Afzalpur Taluk Mr. M. Y. Patil. In 2010 he was nominated as CWC-Child Welfare Committee member for four years, in 2014 nominated as chairperson of CWC for three years. Presently he has resigned and does farming, also interested in the social sector Mr. Mallikarjun Dhuttargaonappointed as a board member of Margadarshi Society on 1st October 2018

Dr. Suresh Bhandarkar is from Madgeri Village of Manvi Taluk of Raichur District brought up in Raichur completed his education till PUC and continued his education of Degree and Ph.D. in Political Science in Kalaburagi District. Presently, he serves as a guest lecturer in Govt. Degree College Yadgir for two years and Govt. Women’s Degree College Kalaburagi for six years. He’s a person with simplicity and has a lot of interest in the Social Sector. Dr. Suresh Bhandarkar appointed as Board Member of Margadarshi Society on 1st October 2018.

Brief Nagabhushana Samaga (Bhushan) hails from Tirthahally,in Shivamogga Dist. He did his schooling in Hubballi, Tirthahally, Gadag and Bengaluru. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering in Electronics & Communications from Govt. B.D.T. College of Engineering. He brings an experience of over 25 years from his employments with Crompton Greaves, Infosys, Global Edge Software in the Telecommunication & IT Products Services industry. In his recent stint he was heading the India Product Development Captive Center of In Eight Inc USA in the role of General Manager & Director of In Eight India Pvt Ltd. His hobbies include reading, listening to Indian classical music and traveling.

OUR PROGRAMS


As per district-level household survey 2016-17 and 2017-18 in the district of Kalaburagi in Karnataka, Out of 411, 35 girl children were married off.

To address the above major challenge Margadarshi Society implemented a project called CHILDLINE -1098 with the following major objectives.

Ø  Protecting Children from runaway, child labor, and from all children related abuses.

Ø  Prevention of child marriage.

Ø  Trace missing children.

Towards this, Margadarshi society works closely with district/ taluka level administration, panchayat raj and local community through training & awareness programs, rallies, street plays, public, regarding the dangers of trafficking, physical and sexual abuse, child marriage and its prevention.

 Through these efforts, Margadarshi Society has rescued more than 3,400 children out of a total of 16,000 calls received. Abuse-related - 580; providing shelter facility 585; medical assistance 150; identifying missing children 290; restoration to home 875; linked to the scholarship for education 215; provide emotional support and counseling 345, and other interventions more than 180. With the efforts of the Margadarshi Society, child marriage were reduced to 50%.

As an independent survey conducted by our Margadarshi Society and based on an available survey, Kalaburagi district has the highest number of dropouts with more than 3000 children and more than 1500 children enrolled back to school.

Prevention of the Child Dropping out of School, Child Labour, and Malnutrition project has the following objectives,

   Ø  Prevention and Protection of Children from Dropping out of School and Becoming Child Labourers.

    Ø  Ensuring effective functioning of child protection systems under ICPS in the intervention areas

     Ø  Ensuring universal access to quality education for all children between the ages of 6 to 18.


To accomplish these objectives team members of the Margadarshi Society worked closely with children and parents. “Shaale Kade Nanna Nade”, “Daakhalati Andholana” rally has been carried out in the operational area in collaboration with GP, SDMC, Education Dept., CDPO, and PRI.

Through these efforts of the Margadarshi Society 478 Dropouts, 160 Child Labours, 123 Never Enrolled, and 761 Irregular Children are enrolled back to the Schools in 5 Villages of Chittapur Taluk, in Kalaburagi District

Margadarshi Society works bringing smiles, for more than 8000 marginalized children. The current operating annual budget of Margadarshi society 99 lakhs with 48 staff, over the period we had the privilege to partner with CHILDLINE India Foundation; Child Rights and You.

Margadarshi Society is governed by 11 board members and compliant about 80G, 12A, FCRA, Darpan, PAN, TAN certifications.

Margadarshi Society was awarded for Child welfare works by Karnataka Govt. under Women and Child Welfare Department in November 2016.
